What is a crypto virtual card?

A crypto virtual card lets you spend crypto at regular online merchants by funding a virtual Visa card. Here's how it works and what to watch for.

A crypto virtual card is a virtual payment card (a card number, expiry, and CVV with no physical plastic) that you fund using crypto instead of a bank transfer. Once funded, it works like any Visa card at online checkouts.

How it works

You convert crypto into the card's settlement currency (USD, via USDC on Base in Skope's case), and a virtual Visa card is issued with that balance. You then paste the card details into any online store that accepts Visa.

What to keep in mind

  • Skope's card is a Non-Reloadable U.S. prepaid Visa. It works at most online merchants, though some decline prepaid cards.
  • It settles in USD; spending in other currencies is converted by the network.
  • Skope is non-custodial: funds move from your wallet, and Skope never holds them.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a bank account for a crypto virtual card?
No. The card is funded from your crypto wallet, so you don't need to move money through a bank account first.
Where can I use it?
At most online merchants that accept Visa. Some merchants and in-person deposit holds do not accept prepaid cards.
